Remembering an Angel:
Actor Jonathan Brandis

by Kevin Caruso

Jonathan Brandis was only six years old when he landed a recurring role on the soap opera "One Life to Live."

He then continued to land one role after another throughout his acting career, including roles in: "Stepfather 2," Stephen King's "It," "Ladybugs," "Sidekicks,"and Steven Spielberg's "SeaQuestDSV."

He also appeared in several commercials and his picture could be seen in numerous fan magazines.

Jonathan Brandis was a handsome, intelligent, popular, well-known, and hard-working young man. It appeared that he had everyhthing going for him.

But Jonathan began to suffer from serious depression. And he oftentimes felt suicidal. He even told some of his friends that he was considering suicide, but none of them took him seriously.

On November 11, 2003, Jonathan hanged himself in his apartment.

He was found by a friend who called 911, but it was too late.

Jonathan Brandis died the next day, on November 12, 2003.

He was 27.

And he is now an angel.

We miss you Jonathan.

-------------------------------------

Depression can hit anyone.

And untreated depression is the number one cause for suicide.

Jonathan Brandis needed treatment for his depression, but never received it.

It is very disquieting that Jonathan told some of his friends that he was suicidal, and they did nothing. You must always take talk about suicide very seriously. And suicide can never be a secret. If someone tells you that he or she is suicidal, you must get help for that person immediately.
