Joann Mitchell Levy, a graduate student at NYU, has died by suicide after jumping from a high window in the art building on September 6, 2004.
She was 23.
Joann Mitchell Levy was the sixth student to die by suicide at NYU in the past year.
All six have jumped to their death from buildings.
Police said that Joann lived with her parents in Greenwich Village.
"[Our] deepest sympathies go out to the student's family and friends," said Josh Taylor, a NYU spokesperson.
"The incidents of the past year have given us a lot of pause and time for reflection," Taylor said. "While we'll never really know what causes someone to take an action like this, it's critical for members of the NYU community to remember that taking one's own life is never the right solution."

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college students.
College can cause tremendous stress in students, and high levels of stress can cause depression.
And untreated depression is the number one cause for suicide.
If you think that you may be depressed, please make appointments with a medical doctor and a therapist so you can be evaluated and treated.
If you or someone you know is suicidal, please go to the Home Page of this website for immediate help.
Thank you.
I love you.
Take care,
